Questions about what it’s like to work together

Here are some of the most common questions I get from folks about therapy. If you don’t see your question answered below, please contact me.

How therapy works and what to expect -

  • I believe everyone can benefit from therapy! You might need help reducing symptoms affecting their day to day functioning, want to gain perspective and heal from difficult experiences in the past, or want to work on goals around personal growth. Maybe you’re experiencing a life change such as a divorce, break up, job loss, parenthood, or entering adulthood. You are welcome here. We will work collaboratively to determine your goals and needs or help you gain clarity. I’ve heard lots of people express concern that their experiences aren’t “bad enough” or that someone has it worse. While that may be true, your experience is just as valid and worthy of being heard.

  • Both!

  • My office is located at 3625 Menchaca Road, Suite 202, Austin, TX 78704

  • The first session, we will meet for 60 minutes. This is a time where I get to know you better explore your current concerns, needs, and goals for yourself. I will ask you a series of questions regarding your personal history, family history, cultural and spiritual influences and your present situation to gain a better understanding of who you are and where you have been. You will never be forced to answer any questions you do not feel comfortable answering. I value letting folks go there own pace.

At the end of your first appointment, we’ll determine how frequently we’d like to meet. Typically clients begin with meeting weekly or biweekly.

  • The length of time depends on each client’s specific and unique needs and therapeutic interventions appropriate for your concerns. Some client’s find 6-8 sessions is sufficient to make sufficient progress while others continue longer for around 20 sessions. We will work together to decide what might be the best for you and communicate regularly around progress and continued need for therapy. My goal is to help empower you to get through the difficult moments on your own and to help you gain skills in your toolbox to use after our time together is done!

  • A 24-hour notice is required for all cancellations (unless it is an uncontrollable emergency). Clients will be billed for the full amount of session with late cancellations or no-shows.

Rates and out-of-network benefits

  • Initial session - $175, 60 minutes

During the initial session, I will ask questions to get to know you, your current struggles, needs, and goals you may have for yourself.

    Individual session - $165, 50 minutes

I typically recommend weekly sessions for the first month and then check in for adjustments

  • I am contracted with Lyra Employee Assistance Program.

Otherwise, no, I do not accept insurance. I have billed insurance for clients in the past and find that not doing so works better for myself and my clients.

Insurance companies require a diagnosis for treatment that will go into your permanent record and are mainly concerned with medical outcomes that may not be appropriate for your needs.

Insurance companies have the right to audit client files, minimizing your confidentiality and privacy.

They can also be unpredictable in coverage, causing surprise charges for clients.

I do accept HSA and FSA cards as payment for sessions, and and am considered an out-of-network provider. This means your insurance company may reimburse a portion of your costs if you file a claim.

I can provide you with a superbill (an invoice) that you can submit to your insurance company if you choose to go this route.

  • In some cases you may be eligible to use out-of-network insurance benefits. You will be responsible for paying for each session in full at time of appointment.

I work with Mentaya, a platform that helps clients get money back on out-of-network therapy sessions. If you have out-of-network benefits, Mentaya will file claims and handle the insurance paperwork to make sure you get reimbursed. This service will be provided at no cost to you.

Note: Mentaya's goal is to save you time and money. It's completely optional, and as your therapist I do not benefit in any way from your participation.

  • You can use the out-of-network reimbursement calculator to get an individualized estimate of what your costs will be using your out-of-network benefits!

If you have out-of-network benefits, they typically will reimburse you for 60-80% of the cost of each session.

If you’d like, I will submit claims to your insurance company on your behalf via Mentaya.

  • I offer a limited number of reduced rates slots for marginalized populations, all of which are currently full (as of December 2024).

Other low cost therapy options can be found here, here, and here.

Good Faith Estimate Notice

You have the right to receive a “Good Faith Estimate” explaining how much your medical care will cost.

Under the law, health care providers need to give patients who don’t have insurance or who are not using insurance an estimate of the bill for medical items and services.

  • You have the right to receive a Good Faith Estimate for the total expected cost of any non-emergency items or services. This includes related costs like medical tests, prescription drugs, equipment, and hospital fees.

  • Make sure your health care provider gives you a Good Faith Estimate in writing at least 1 business day before your medical service or item. You can also ask your health care provider, and any other provider you choose, for a Good Faith Estimate before you schedule an item or service.

  • If you receive a bill that is at least $400 more than your Good Faith Estimate, you can dispute the bill.

  • Make sure to save a copy or picture of your Good Faith Estimate. For questions or more information about your right to a Good Faith Estimate, visit www.cms.gov/nosurprises or call 800-985-3059.
